Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot Hack
Are you constantly searching for wi-fi hotspots every time you go to a new city? Well, if you said yes…look no more. With this next hack you become the hotspot! How trippy is that?
I know you guys are probably reading this thinking “this guy’s on crack!” But, I assure you I’m on the level. Jason Bradbury from JasonBradbury.com has come up with an ingenious little hack. He actual creates a mobile wi-fi hotspot device that can fit in a backpack!
So, how did he do it? Well, he took a Linksys Wireless router with Standard PC Card slot for a Mobile Broadband Data Card and added a first generation Vodaphone 3G data card to the router’s PCMCIA slot. He used a 12 volt battery for juice, by soldering a power connector from the battery to the router. The battery “gives you about eight hours wiffy playtime.” And, for the piece de resistance, you can add booster antenna “to send your signal far and wide.”
The final results? A portable wi-fi hotspot that you can use to, as Jason puts it:
stage that LAN party you’ve always wanted in the middle of a field…. or on a plane…. or a bus… or in a series of canoes… or … okay, just stop before someone gets hurt.
